How do I sign up for a shift?
To sign up for a shift, contact Peter Riesbeck, the Volunteer Coordinator at 412-622-1606, or complete the online sign up form.
Where do volunteers go during business hours?
Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, volunteers may come in through our main entrance on Fifth Avenue.All doors are always locked, so simply press the buzzer at the door, and the receptionist will let you in.
After 5pm weekdays, and every day on weekend, please use the rear entrance adjacent to our employee parking. To gain entrance, lift the telephone which is located at the entrance, and dial the number posted. An operator will answer, and send a supervisor to unlock the door for you.
Where is the TV pledge studio?
The studio is located on the first floor of our building, just beyond the elevator and past the Mister Rogers tree from the Land Of Make Believe.
Where is the FM radio pledge studio?
The studio is located on the ground floor (below the first floor).
What if I am unable to fulfill a volunteer shift I committed to?
If you find yourself suddenly unable to fulfill your volunteer shift, please contact Peter Riesbeck, the Volunteer Coordinator at 412-622-1506 as soon as possible. Please leave a detailed message if he is unavailable.
What if we have severe weather on a day or night when I have scheduled to volunteer?
If you find that you are unable to fulfill your volunteer shift due to severe weather, please contact Peter Riesbeck, the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible.
If severe weather forces WQED to reschedule an in studio pledge, the Volunteer Coordinator will make every effort to contact each volunteer. The Volunteer Coordinator will also record a message with this information on his automated voice mail at 412-622-1506 informing volunteers that the pledge has been rescheduled. Please call that number during those times for details.
Can I bring a friend with me to volunteer?
Absolutely. Volunteering is always more fun with a friend or partner! If you would like to bring an additional volunteer with you for your shift, please contact Peter Riesbeck at 412-622-1506, the Volunteer Coordinator and let him know.
I am a volunteer with special needs, or know a volunteer with special needs. Can I still volunteer?
WQED welcomes all volunteers. To determine if we can accommodate your special needs volunteers, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
My child would like to volunteer at WQED. Does WQED use volunteers who are under 18?
We welcome all volunteers regardless of age, but in many cases prefer that volunteers under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult. To find out if your child should be accompanied by such a party, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
