The Pearl Fishers

Georges Bizet
November 5th at 1:30pm and November 11th at 7pm

THE STORY: Premiering 12 years before Carmen, Bizet's The Pearl Fishers is a spellbinding, lyrical gem in its own right. Its very famous duet "La fond au temple saint" underscores the bond at the heart of the conflict between pearl fishers Zurga and Nadir: both are in love with the priestess Lela. Grand choral passages and exotic dance sequences make it an intoxicating spectacle.

THE CAST:
Zurga - Craig Verm

Leila - Leah Partridge
Nourabad - Andrew Gangestad

Rinaldo

Hansel & Gretel
Englebert Humperdinck
January 21st at 12:30pm and January 27th at 7pm

THE STORY: Humperdinck's Mrchenoper ("fairy-tale opera") is a family affair, not just in the story of the brother and sister lost in the woods and nearly eaten by a wicked witch, but its libretto was written by none other than Humperdinck's sister. True to its origins in Grimm's Fairy Tales, Hansel & Gretel is a darkly beautiful work with a rich orchestration: it's definitely not just for kids.

THE CAST:
Gretel - Suzanne Vinnik
Hansel - Stephanie Lauricella
Mother/Witch - Alexandra Loutsion
Father - Kyle Oliver

Its gripping story, set amid the chaos of revolution, has resonated with audiences since its premiere, and remains one of his most popular works.
