Feature stories
WE ACCEPT NO UNSOLICITED MANUSCRIPTS. QUERIES ONLY. If you have an article idea you feel would make for great reading, we'd like to hear from you. Queries can range from fun/light to serious/investigative. Features can cover any subject -- food, outdoors, politics, sports, first-person humor, first-person dramatic, health, lifestyles, home & garden, etc. Cover story ideas can range from a celebrity or high-profile Pittsburgher to subjects such as: Best Places to Work, Most Expensive Homes, etc. We are looking to make all of our covers high profile with broad & mass appeal. Keep in mind that all queries must have a logical connection to Pittsburgh.

Editorial & Photography Rights

Editorial

(a) Exclusive first publication rights for the first 90 days after newsstand date in print and on our website. After 90 days, non-exclusive rights to republish in an anthology or collection of magazine materials.

(b) The right to refer to the Work and to refer to you as its author together with your relevant biographical data, and to authorize re-publication of all or part of the Work for the advertising and promotion of the Magazine, as well as the issue of the Magazine in which the work appears.

(c) The non-exclusive right to republish the Work in any anthology or collection of Magazine material.

Photography

Grant of Rights: Photographer hereby grants to Publication worldwide first publication rights and ongoing rights, as described below. Publication's rights include:

(a) The exclusive right to publish the Work for 90 days prior to any other party, in any form throughout the world in PITTSBURGH magazine.

(b) The non-exclusive right to anthologize the Work at any time in a collection of Works from the publication.

(c) The non-exclusive right to publish, distribute and sell reprints of all or any portion of the work as it appears in the publication in any language and in any country.

(d) The non-exclusive right to publish and use the Work as it appears in the publication in advertisements and promotions for the Publisher and/or the Publisher's products.

(e) All rights granted by this Agreement are applicable in all media including, but not limited to, all electronic media and the internet, whether now known or hereafter created.

Written queries only. Please, no phone queries. We prefer to receive a brief query with a sample lead and one-page outline; writers should also enclose 3-5 published clips plus a resume. Manuscripts and other materials will be returned only if the writer includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope. PITTSBURGH magazine cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to unsolicited material. The writer guarantees that any submitted piece is his or her own work and is not plagiarized.
