Although the cold and flu season is behind us, it's likely you'll need to visit a doctor sometime this year - whether it's for your annual physical, summer allergies or something more significant, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. If you're lucky enough to have found the perfect doctor, you can rest easy. But if you're searching for a physician, the following list is a good place to start.

Our list, prepared for Pittsburgh magazine by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., continues to gain in popularity and reflects the vibrancy of the region's medical community, which continues to be a vital economic engine as well as a source of medical advances and research.

To create our list, Castle Connolly contacted thousands of health professionals in the region and asked them to name the doctors to whom they would entrust a family member when faced with a specific medical problem. The physicians are listed under 46 specialties. You'll also find information about the doctors' area of expertise, hospital affiliations and office addresses and phone numbers.

We acknowledge that there are many fine physicians in our community who are not included in this representative list; it is intended as a sampling of the great body of medical talent that calls Pittsburgh home.
