2009 Dominion Volunteer in the Arts Award (VITA)
The VITA Award recognizes the efforts of volunteers of all ages who give of themselves to help keep nonprofit arts organizations in the region alive and thriving.

WQED SOLICITS NOMINATIONS FROM ARTS ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE 2009 DOMINION VOLUNTEER IN THE ARTS AWARD

Recognition program honors volunteers of regional arts organizations

PITTSBURGH – Volunteers are the lifeblood of nonprofit arts organizations throughout the region and Dominion and WQED show their appreciation through the Dominion Volunteer in the Arts (VITA) Award. Established in 1988, the VITA Award recognizes the efforts of volunteers of all ages who give of themselves to help keep nonprofit arts organizations in the region alive and thriving.

Each year, VITA awardees are selected from hundreds of nominations received throughout western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, western Maryland and northern West Virginia and honorees are selected by a blue ribbon committee. The winning volunteer’s organization is presented with a financial gift in honor of their volunteerism and the volunteer winners are recognized at a special luncheon in Pittsburgh in October.

WQED is soliciting nominations for the 2009 VITA Awards now. Complete submission information, rules and application form are available on the WQED website at www.wqed.org/education/awards.php. Deadline for nominations is Friday, August 14, 2009 at noon.

Nominations should include the following criteria:

The nominee demonstrates support and involvement in the larger structure of an organization and community.

The nominee demonstrates ability to work cohesively with both the volunteer team and organization's staff.

The nominee has achieved a level of accomplishment as a volunteer that has positively impacted an organization.

For 21 years, the VITA Award has been a joint community partnership between Dominion and WQED. It is funded by an annual grant from Dominion Foundation.
